How to Apply
Education Programs
Overview
Oasis High School offers students, grades 9-12, a site-based version of
independent study operating from a resource center in downtown Oakland.
Oasis is a safe and nurturing environment in which students can explore
their potential through a variety of experiences both on-site and out in the
larger community.

Oasis  emphasizes reflective and analytical thinking around a core set of
school-wide learning objectives.  Students at Oasis pursue personalized
learning paths that incorporate hands-on investigation of real-world issues
and problems about which they are passionate, all the while developing
their skills in areas such as communication and critical thinking.
Oasis provides:
  • A comprehensive high school program, aligned with California
content standards leading to a high school diploma.
  • Teachers who know and support each student and hold high
    expectations for student participation
  • A small school environment
  • A 20:1 student-teacher ratio – unusually low for a high school – to
ensure that students receive direct attention and that
communication between students and teachers is maximized
  • Service learning and field study so students can connect their
academic work to the real world.
  • Youth expressions- teachers work with partner agencies to provide
youth with opportunities for artistic development and creative self-
expression.  Projects include youth poetry, hip hop arts, music
    production and drama
  • Opportunities for outdoor, experiential learning
