Student Body
Oasis anticipates a student population of approximately 170 in 2007-08
with students coming from neighborhoods throughout Oakland.
Brief History
Oasis High School was created in 2004 as a response to the drop-out
epidemic among Oakland high school students. Over 3,000 students
have dropped out of high school in Oakland over the last three years,
many of whom, when surveyed, reveal a sincere desire to return to a
school that is supportive, “isn’t boring,” “connects to the real world,” and
“wants me to succeed.” Oasis High School offers young people the
opportunity to earn their diplomas and prepare for life after high school.
Oasis High School is public charter school accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Schools and authorized by Oakland Unified School District, and operating as a non-profit organization.

“I was always capable of doing well in school, but I didn’t put any work into it because I never felt like I was part of the community.”
He is not alone. Over the past three years, nearly 3,000 young people have dropped out of Oakland high schools.
